Vintage Chrome-Top Miniature Table Lighter

Curatorial Story & Cultural Heritage

This is a vintage mid-century miniature table lighter with a chrome top and pale wrap. Miniature table lighters gained immense popularity during the mid-20th century as stylish accessories for cocktail tables, desks, and smoking dens. Manufacturers produced a wide variety of compact designs, often incorporating polished metals and decorative wraps to appeal to contemporary interior aesthetics. These pieces were frequently manufactured by specialty metalworking shops in Europe and Japan during the post-war economic boom. As smoking became a ubiquitous social ritual, owning an attractive, portable table lighter was a common marker of domestic refinement and hospitality. Period: 1950s Origin: Japan
