Maisto VW Bus
Curatorial Story & Cultural Heritage
A Maisto die-cast metal scale model of a Volkswagen Samba bus. Volkswagen manufactured the original full-sized vehicles in Wolfsburg, Germany, starting in the middle of the twentieth century. These motor vehicles were designed to provide reliable, affordable transport for families and cargo during the post-war economic recovery. The distinctive multi-window design with a split front windshield became an enduring symbol of automotive freedom and counterculture mobility. Drivers used these versatile vans for camping trips, commercial deliveries, and passenger transport across city streets and rural highways alike. Families loaded them with luggage for weekend holidays while businesses relied on their spacious interiors for daily trade. Production of this classic generation eventually transitioned to newer engine layouts and body styles as modern safety and efficiency standards took over. Period: Circa 1990-2010 Origin: Germany
