Wine Accessory Set
Curatorial Story & Cultural Heritage
A modern unbranded wooden-cased wine accessory and opener set. Makers in China produced millions of these wooden-cased wine accessory sets for the global corporate gift and holiday market starting around the turn of the twenty-first century. They were manufactured to offer an affordable all-in-one package containing a lever corkscrew, bottle stoppers, and pourers for home entertainers. The components were stamped from base metals and plated with shiny finishes, while the boxes were fashioned from stained wood with foam inserts to hold each piece securely in place. Hosts used these kits at home dinners and casual gatherings to open wine bottles quickly and preserve leftovers with the included stoppers. They were kept on sideboards or bar carts for easy access during parties and holiday meals. Over time, as similar kits became ubiquitous retail items and direct-to-consumer gifts, their secondary market presence grew large while their resale value settled to a modest level.
